Meeting Report (August 2013)

Brethren,

This past weekend, Cool Springs Primitive Baptist Church near Danville, GA celebrated her annual August Meeting.  There was precious little about the weekend that we would have desired to change, for the only glaring change that would have been made was for the meeting to have kept going on.  The church invited Elder Will Martin – pastor of the Macedonia PBC near Cartersville, GA. – and Elder James Conley – pastor of the Union PBC near Ruth, MS. – to preach the meeting.  Both of the brethren yoked up well with the other to tread out the corn all weekend long.  Since neither of them could stay through the Sundaynight service, the church invited Elder Jon Mizell to preach that service, and his effort followed in the same vein, caliber, and quality of all that had preceded it.

Many of our body commented on how much the meeting meant to them personally.  From beginning to end, much rejoicing was felt and shared by all.  One of the great benefits of a meeting like this is that it serves as an extra spiritual battery booster.  Please pray for us that we may go in the strength of this meat for many days.  For those that would like to listen to the sermons, they will be posted soon to our website at:coolspringspbc.org.  I have attached an outline below showing the order of services.  Brethren, rejoice with us!

Wednesday Night
Communion

Thursday Night
Prayer: Elder Stephen Dyar
Preaching: Elder James Conley – Jude 3, Earnestly Contending for the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints.  Brother James showed the beauty of what we have to stand for, and how that such a solid foundation in God’s mercies should embolden our walk to diligently serve Him.
Preaching: Elder Will Martin – Matthew 1:18-25, Considering the Promises of God in Christ.  Brother Will related the story of Joseph receiving the message of the nature of his espoused wife’s child.  He then related that to how we receive the news of Jesus Christ and hold on to the promises that God reveals to us.
Prayer: Brother Zachary Hart

Friday Night
Prayer: Elder Garry Hall
Preaching: Elder Will Martin – 4  Small but Wise Things.  Brother Will talked about the 4 things in Proverbs 31 – ant, coney, locust, and spider – that are small but wise.  These natural creatures were then correlated into a spiritual plane to show they serve as aspects of our fellowship and closeness to God.
Preaching: Elder James Conley – Triumphing In Christ.  Brother James began in II Corinthians 2:14 showing that though we do triumph in Christ finally and fully in the eternal scope we can triumph in Christ in all seasons and times.  He then proceeded to show the method of how that is accomplished in our walk here in this world.
Prayer: Elder Wesley Watkins

Saturday Night
Prayer: Elder Jon Mizell
Preaching: Elder Will Martin – I Timothy 4:13-16, Nourishing the Gifts We Have.  Brother Will showed forth several points about gifts that God has given us.  Whether ministers or not, we all have gifts that God gives that are to be nourished in a similar manner.  The end result is great deliverance from the torments of Satan and the world.
Prayer: Brother Roy Stewart

Sunday Morning
Prayer: Elder Philip Conley
Preaching: Elder James Conley – Husbands and Wives Pleasing Each Other.  Brother James started by showing the natural analogy and illustration of marriage and a good relationship.  He then proceeded to show forth the ultimate example of a husband in The Husband Jesus Christ who does please His wife.  He then showed how that the bride of Christ should seek to please her Husband in all things.
Prayer: Brother Mike Sheppard

Sunday Night
Prayer: Elder Dan Bryant
Preaching: Elder Jon Mizell – The Rich Young Ruler.  Brother Jon showed that it is possible for a regenerate child of God to hear the right message, at the right time, from the right one, and still leave very sorrowful.  The encouragement to the child of God today is to faithfully obey the message from Christ to experience the full life of spiritual family and friends with close communion with Jesus Christ.

Meeting Report (August 2012)

Brethren,

Over the 1st Weekend of August, Cool Springs Primitive Baptist Church enjoyed her annual meeting.  The meeting was – to all accounts – particularly blessed from on high.  During the course of our meeting, we enjoyed the fellowship and visitation of many kindred in Christ from sister churches both locally and in other states.  We sincerely thank all of our friends that visited with us, and most of all, we thank the Almighty for sending the Holy Ghost from heaven to dwell with us, comfort us, and make the services a time of spiritual refreshing.

The church began the meeting on Wednesday night (August 1st) with communion, and it was a particularly touching and moving service.  It was observed by our visiting ministers that they enjoyed starting the meeting with communion rather than ending with it.  Beginning with communion can help put our souls in frame for the remainder of the meeting to come, and it was certainly the case this time.  We were blessed to have Elder Joe Holder from Riverside, CA and Elder Luke Laird from Moundville, AL to be with us to do the preaching.  Below is the order of services beginning on Thursday night.

Thursday Night August 2nd:

Prayer: Elder Will Martin
Preaching: Elder Joe Holder – "3 Things we use to overcome in Revelation 12."  The message today is not a defeatist story but a victory from which we should daily draw strength.  In so doing, we can overcome the dragon and show forth the praises of Him who has called us.
Preaching: Elder Luke Laird – "Blood of Christ and Repentance."  Being stirred by the blood of Christ (one of the things that helps us overcome) we should move from there to the subject of repentance.  When considering the ultimate glory in Christ's blood, repentance is the next logical step that must occur.
Prayer: Elder Craig Lanier

Friday Night August 3rd:

Prayer: Elder Rabon Lord
Preaching: Elder Luke Laird – "Who Maketh Thee to Differ" (I Corinthians 4:7).  What is it about us that makes us differ and who made us that way?  The answer was simply preached as God that makes us different and election as the agent.
Preaching: Elder Joe Holder – "2 Natures Living Together" (Isaiah 11).  When looking at our constitution, we have both the wolf and the lamb living together.  The goal in our lives should be to build up the lamb of our spiritual nature and put down the wolf of our carnal nature.
Prayer: Elder Marty Smith

Saturday Morning August 4th:

Prayer: Elder Jon Mizell
Preaching: Elder Joe Holder – "2 Sparrows for Cleansing" (Leviticus 14).  In the ceremony for the cleansing of the leper, two birds (sparrows) are used.  While the leper is already healed, this ceremony shows how he is cleansed to enjoy fellowship.  God shows us through this picture of the boundless grace and mercy of His Son Jesus Christ and how we should react in regards to our own "leprosy" problem.
Prayer: Elder Franklin Bryant

Saturday Night August 4th:

Prayer: Elder Joe Nettles
Preaching: Elder Luke Laird – "How Does He Make Thee to Differ" (I Corinthians 4:7).  After showing that God makes us different through election, we see how God does it in this time world through the new birth.  Our nature once wholly darkness is now made a partaker of the Divine Nature from the Father of lights.
Prayer: Elder Michael Hataway

Sunday Morning August 5th:

Prayer: Elder Calvin Watkins
Preaching: Elder Joe Holder – "The Suffering and Exalted Messiah" (Isaiah 52 &53).  Considering the prophecies of Christ from the Old Testament, many scholars were confused as to why the Messiah was crowned in some and suffering in others.  In the life of Jesus, this conflict of thought is resolved as He is crowned but did indeed suffer as well.
Preaching: Elder Luke Laird – "What we should do with being different."  Knowing that God has made us different and quickened us by His Spirit, how should our lives reflect that?  What kinds of traits should be exhibited and what kinds of traits should be put down?
Prayer: Elder Philip Conley

Sunday Night August 5th:

Prayer: Elder Garry Hall
Preaching: Joe Holder – "Touched and Helping Messiah" (Hebrews 4:15-16).  Not only has our Lord Jesus Christ saved us, but He helps us daily and is touched with our problems and weaknesses.  Not only does He give eternal life, but He helps with daily strength as well.
Prayer: Elder Dan Bryant

Elder Joe Holder (Riverside, CA)

Elder Luke Laird (Moundville, AL)

We at Cool Springs feel supremely blessed and very thankful to our dear Lord for blessing us in such a powerful way.  May we go in the strength of this meat for many days, and may the fond remembrances of this meeting strengthen our zeal of service.  Again, our many thanks to those that visited with us.

In Hope,

Bro Philip
